These terms cover your use of VM-Text, a Discord app that turns voice messages into text ("the Service"). By adding VM-Text to a server or your account, or by using any of its commands or automatic replies, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, remove the app and stop using it.
VM-Text is run by Lavery.Jonez ("I", "me") in Scotland, United Kingdom. You can reach me at [email protected].
1. What the Service does
VM-Text transcribes Discord voice messages. It can do this in three ways:
- Automatically, replying to voice messages in servers where the app has been added and automatic transcription is turned on.
- Transcribe (private), where only the person who asked sees the result.
- Transcribe (public), where the result is posted as a message in the channel for everyone to see.
You can change your own settings, and a server's settings if you have the Manage Server permission, with the /config command.
2. Discord's rules also apply
You must follow the Discord Terms of Service and Community Guidelines when using VM-Text. You must be old enough to use Discord in your country, and in any case at least 13.
3. Acceptable use
Don't use the Service to:
- break the law, or to harass, threaten, stalk or abuse anyone;
- transcribe voice messages in order to expose, track or profile someone against their wishes;
- overload, crash, probe or reverse-engineer the Service, or get around the queue or any limits;
- spam, or deliberately flood the queue with requests;
- process content that is illegal to possess or share.
I can block users or servers, or remove the app from a server, without notice if these rules are broken.
4. Transcripts can be wrong
Transcription is automatic and will make mistakes, especially with background noise, accents, overlapping speech, names and less common languages. Don't rely on a transcript where an error could cause harm, such as for legal, medical, safety or financial decisions. Always check the original audio when it matters.
5. Other people's voice messages
VM-Text transcribes voice messages sent by other people. If you use Transcribe (public), or a server turns on automatic transcription, the text of those messages becomes visible to everyone who can see that channel. Server admins decide whether to turn automatic transcription on, and are responsible for letting their members know. Use public transcription considerately.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of the voice messages you send. VM-Text only processes them to produce a transcript, as described in the Privacy Policy. I don't claim any rights over your messages or the transcripts.
7. Availability and changes
The Service is free and is run as a personal project. It is provided "as is" and "as available". It may be slow, queued, unavailable, changed or shut down at any time, with or without notice. I don't promise it will always work or always be accurate.
8. Liability
To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service, including from errors in transcripts or from a transcript being shown to other people. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that can't legally be limited, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud.
9. Ending your use
You can stop at any time by removing the app from your account or server. You can ask me to delete the settings and transcripts stored about you or your server by emailing me, as explained in the Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using the Service after a change, you accept the new terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction, unless your local consumer law gives you the right to use your own courts.
